MINIMUM STAYS, RATES, METHODS OF PAYMENT, EXTENDED STAYS, AND DEPOSITS

Minimum Stay on weekends including holidays is Friday and Saturday.  No minimum for any other night of the week.  We accept personal checks and cash, but not credit cards.  We have reduced rates for extended stays.  Deposits are ½ the reservation.  Rates are $125 per night, double occupancy.  Additional guests (kids or adults), are $25 per person age 10 and up.

If you go wading, or floating, you will probably have company (but they keep the snakes away). That's Lynn on the left, and Blackdog on the right.

Children supervised by conscientious parents are welcome, but you should make note of the physical conditions out here if you plan to bring children.  They will require close observation to keep them out of trouble, and unwounded.  Mannerly pets are welcome, too, but you should realize we have four large Labs, and they are rowdy, so pay attention to what you’re dog’s doing.

POLICIES ON SMOKING, KIDS, PETS AND MEALS

We prefer you don’t smoke, even outside, due to the danger of grass fires.  However, we recognize that tobacco is an addictive substance, so we try to be reasonable and accommodating.  Please be very, very careful with open flames of any type.

Kids are welcome, provided you recognize the need for closer supervision, and the possibilities of stickers, messes and mud.  Please don’t let a muddy kid run amok in a cabin.  Be sure you tell them about cattle, and critters, and have them avoid scorpions, skunks, spiders and snakes.  (You’re in danger when a skunk is looking at you, not moving away).  We like to share the ranch with kids, but try to orient them to the differences between wild land and their local neighborhood.

Obedient pets, like dogs who mind their owners, are welcome.  However, recognize that a city dog may be a little unaware of what constitutes a danger in the country.  Cattle cannot be molested in any way.  It disturbs the peace of the ranch, and a cow can kill a dog by kicking it.  Dogs that habitually and uncontrollably molest cattle are considered expendable in the country.  If your dog gets lost, and you have to leave, if he (or she) shows up, we’ll ship it to you COD, or meet you in town to return it.  We are not responsible for the safety of pets.

We’re open minded about cats (we have three house cats, and one feral cat who’s meaner than a snake, but she keeps the rodents away).  Just remember the environment and be your own judge of whether or not to bring tabby.  We assume tabby is housebroken, and won’t scratch the furniture.

Nobody’s asked yet about birds, and snakes, ferrets, and gosh knows what else, but don’t bother.  Beyond cats or dogs, keep your pet at home safe in his regular home. Since we’re a ways out, we have the kitchen for you to prepare your own meals.  We do offer additional meal packages, at negotiable rates for those who want to be totally pampered.  Just ask, and we’ll see what you like, and what it will cost.

AVERAGE TEMPERATURE, CLOTHING, FIREARMS AND VEHICLES

Fredericksburg generally has a moderate climate.  Summers in the 90’s, winters in the 40’s, with shifts along the Fall and Spring.  It can “rain like hail” around the ranch, and the mud is very sticky, and full of clay.  It’s a real headache when it rains a lot.  In the transition seasons, be prepared for unseasonable weather (rain or cold), and you’ll be glad you did.

Generally, the more “western” your clothing, the more comfortable you will be.  There’s good reason for wide brim Cowboy hats (good shade), long sleeve shirts (sunburn, and thorns), denim jeans (cactus, snakes, and comfort), and tall boots, (everything that’s on the ground).  We don’t recommend tennis shoes, or soft sided shoes, because of cactus, and objects that can penetrate soft materials.  Try to have a good solid sole that can’t be penetrated, and won’t be slick if it’s wet.

You’re welcome to walk anywhere you want, just don’t cross any fence lines.  Hiking and picnicking is encouraged, but remember to clean up after yourself, and don’t leave paper flying around in the wind.  We don’t permit four wheelers of any kind.  No driving up out of the creek bottom north, unless its for the sole purpose of cell phone calls in inclement weather.

Between gates 1 and 2, you might meet our watchhorses, Rusty (left) and Misty (right), who actually live next door. They love apples and carrots. Watch your fingers, they're not very polite.

The more clearance your vehicle offers, the happier you will be.  Lower clearance means less mobility, and slower speeds.

Do not bring firearms unless by prior arrangement and special permission.  This includes licensed handguns. (You’re welcome to bring it, we just want to know if you carry).  See “Things to Do” for additional comments.
