WARNING AND DISCLAIMER

Your bovine hosts at A Getaway Ranch. The calves aren't sure what to think an usually hide behind mom.

A Getaway Ranch is a working cattle ranch with 1,000 lb cows, and at least one 2,000 lb bull.  A nursing cow is VERY protective of its calf, and you do not want to attempt to pet them.  You also will never forget it if you manage to irritate the bull.  Leave them alone, and they will leave you alone.  They are more interested in eating, than you.  If they approach you, it’s because they think you brought food.

The ranch contains plentiful and varied wildlife in its natural habitat.  Most of the time, you will not have any problem, but you should be aware of your surroundings. There are bees, wasps, hornets, scorpions, skunks (ask our dogs), mice, and critters of all shapes and sizes.  The ranch, the creek, and its ponds have snakes, including bull snakes, (not poisonous), and coral snakes, rattlesnakes, copperheads,  and water moccasins (all poisonous). (You are unlikely to see one, as they like you even less than you like them, but be careful of warm sunny rocks, and water moccasins have been observed swimming in the pond in the evenings).

The frogs like to sing at night.  The ground is uneven, and rocky.  You can trip, and fall, and bruise a kneecap.  If you forget your mother’s warnings, you can put an eye out walking into a tree limb.  There are thorn bushes, cactus, poison ivy, fire ants, and cow patties (watch where you step).  THIS IS NOT THE CITY.

You should and must pay attention to what you’re’ doing, and where you’re walking. If you are looking  for marble Jacuzzis, European antiques, fine china, and designer linens, we are probably not for you.  We’re not a good place for people who want to pop in and out, and shop till you drop (In town we recommend Carolyn’s Place)It takes about 25 minutes to get to town (or back), and it can take longer if you want to really relax, and enjoy the scenery.  We’re a good place for day trips, where you are gone all day.  If you’re looking to decompress, drop out, and tune out, we’re a good bet.   Once you get here, we hope you’ll want to kick back and relax, and enjoy your surroundings.

Guests at the ranch, and their children, assume the risk of being in a natural environment, and should conduct themselves accordingly.  We reserve the right to refuse accommodations to anyone, and to cancel reservations or extended stays for anyone refusing to abide by the policies of the ranch.

If you aren’t bothered by bumps in the ranch road, and mud puddles after a rain, and you like wide open spaces under the bright shining stars, where you are treated like family, we’d love to have you.  This is TEXAS, YA’LL, and we like it that way.
